Governments and regulators need to view the capabilities and benefits of lighting within the broad spectrum of quality of life and improved well-being. This requires a paradigm shift.
The lighting industry is currently confronted by a regulatory landscape with many rules, but very poor enforcement of those rules. For a relatively small industry category, lighting is exposed to heavy, complex and in many cases unneeded regulations. Rules that are not enforced are not assisting the important transition to human centric lighting. They only contribute to uneven playing fields and unfair competition.
The global lighting industry firmly believes there must be a reversal of the current preoccupation with green buildings to a focus on healthy buildings.
Instead of their focus on waste management, governments should stimulate new ideas and trials with circular economy solutions.
And finally, the lighting industry needs fewer, and better enforced, regulations.
